How I fell in love with Redhat – Yassine Bennayoub, Openshift Engineer

Long story short:

  • Passion and Beginnings: My passion for IT began in high school, where I developed a deep appreciation for Linux.
  • Career Growth: I advanced from a junior consultant to a senior consultant.
  • Impact and Fulfillment: Throughout my career, I have spearheaded numerous projects for diverse organizations, leveraging RedHat technologies to foster innovation and deliver impactful results.

Hi Yassine! Could you tell use a bit more about yourself and your interest in IT?

My passion for IT ignited shortly after college. With degrees in network engineering and programming, along with a specialization in networking, I found my true interest in automating Linux systems, which led me to discover my love for Ansible.

In 2016, I began my professional career in the IT industry, focusing on cloud-native platforms and automation. I was particularly drawn to RedHat’s OpenShift and the remarkable capabilities of Ansible for comprehensive automation. This enthusiasm propelled me to further explore cloud-native solutions and other automation tools, laying a solid foundation for my future career.

How did your career at Devoteam look like so far?

I joined Devoteam in 2017 as a medior consultant, where I had the opportunity to engage in a variety of projects for different companies. These experiences expanded my technical skill set and enabled me to apply my expertise in RedHat products, particularly OpenShift and Ansible, across diverse environments.

My commitment to continuous learning and dedication to my work allowed me to advance through the ranks. I first became a senior consultant, and later, a team coach, where I had the privilege of mentoring and supporting fellow consultants on their journeys at Devoteam.

What’s your greatest achievement at Devoteam?

It’s difficult to pinpoint a single greatest achievement among the many rewarding projects I’ve been involved in. However, I am particularly proud to have had an impact in these achievements and to see the advancements and successes achieved by Devoteam and RedHat, establishing themselves as leaders in their respective fields.

What’s your favourite food (and can you find a nice connection to it with IT)?

One of my favorite foods is sushi. Interestingly, sushi preparation can be likened to IT operations in several ways. Just as sushi chefs meticulously select and arrange ingredients to create harmonious flavors and textures, IT professionals carefully choose and configure software and hardware components to ensure seamless functionality and user experience. Both sushi making and IT require precision, creativity, and a keen attention to detail to achieve excellence.

What’s the best advice a Devoteamer ever gave to you?

The best advice I received from a fellow Devoteamer was to always prioritize understanding the client’s needs deeply before proposing solutions. This guidance emphasized the importance of empathy and thorough analysis in delivering effective IT consultancy. It taught me to approach each project with a focus on solving real-world problems and creating meaningful impact, rather than just implementing technical solutions.

When you’re not working, what are you doing in your free time?

Outside of work, when I’m not immersed in IT projects, you’ll often find me engaging in various activities. Having been a former basketball player, I still have a passion for the sport and enjoy playing whenever I can. Additionally, I love exploring new technologies and experimenting with DIY electronics projects. I also enjoy reading books on tech trends and spending quality time with family and friends, exploring new cuisines or traveling to new places.

Anything final to add?

Looking back on my journey, I am thankful to Devoteam for the opportunities and experiences that have moulded my career. Moving forward, I am eager to embark on new challenges and play a part in the dynamic evolution of cloud-native platforms and automation.

Thanks, Yassine!
